Johnny Izatt-Lowry

Growing up in rural England, Johnny Izatt-Lowry has long looked outside his immediate environment for source material. His works consist of a collection of collaged elements from the internet, composed in Photoshop and subsequently drawn a number of times before being committed to in layers of pigment and soft pastel, initially on delicate crepe fabric and, more recently, on linen.

The exhibition Around dusk, or thereabouts at Galerie Fabian Lang in February 2022 marked his first exhibition outside the UK. Izatt-Lowry's work is not didactic; it is mischievous and refuses to be resolved so easily. It sits somewhere between our own world and the world of representation. Like a dream it feels surreal, and like it could too easily be lost, leaving only slight but nagging recollections.

Izatt-Lowry born 1995, in Durham, UK, lives and works in London, UK.

Solo exhibitions include At some point, the other day, M+B, Los Angeles, 2023; Around dusk, or thereabouts, Galerie Fabian Lang, Zurich, 2022; A Table, with things on, Taymour Grahne Projects, London (online), 2021; By day, but then again by night, Cooke Latham Gallery, London, 2020.
