On the occasion of Art Basel Miami Beach 2024, Galerie Fabian Lang (Zürich) and Espacio Valverde (Madrid) are pleased to present a site-specific solo presentation by Elena Alonso consisting of handmade wall panels, wall sculptures and a series of new paintings bringing together the artists’ main gestural concerns in her practice - architecture, design and drawing. The references to the history of architecture and design come from a problematic thought about the construction of gender and the idea of the integrity of bodies. In her work, one is confronted with a meticulous framework of counterpoints held together by a powerful symmetric structure with allusions to body parts, nipples, phalluses and other ambiguous body curves.
Elena Alonso's work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Galerie Fabian Lang (2020, 2024); Espacio Valverde (2012, 2014, 2016, 2022); CA2M Museum (2018, permanent installation); Matadero Madrid (2017); Museo ABC (2015); Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid, as part of the program 9 (2011); A.C. Mediodía Chica (2010); and Cable Factory of Helsinki (2007).
She has been awarded several distinctions and grants such as the prestigious Culture Award of the Madrid Community for Visual Art (2018), the El ARCO Community of Madrid Award for Young Artists (2018), GENERACIONES 2013 (2013), 23rd Circuitos de Artes Plásticas (2012) and Contemporary Creation Grant from Matadero Madrid (2011).
Alonso's work has recently been acquired by the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain.
